Mit über vier Jahrzehnten Bandgeschichte gehören die Yellowjackets zu den prägenden Stimmen des modernen Jazz und zeigen mit ihrem neuen Album Fasten Up (VÖ: 21. Februar 2025), ihrem inzwischen 27. Der Titel entlehnt der energiegeladenen Komposition von Bassist Dane Alderson steht sinnbildlich für die Dynamik und Neugier, die das Quartett seit 1981 auszeichnet.
Die aktuelle Besetzung um Pianist/Keyboarder Russell Ferrante, Schlagzeuger Will Kennedy, Saxophonist Bob Mintzer und Bassist Dane Alderson verbindet generationsübergreifende Erfahrung mit stetigem Forschergeist. Ihr Stil überschreitet seit jeher Genregrenzen zwischen Jazztradition, Funk, kammermusikalischer Eleganz und modernen Einflüssen und hat die Yellowjackets zu einem ganz eigenen Klangkosmos geführt.
Fasten Up spiegelt diese Haltung in elf vielseitigen Stücken wider: von frischen Interpretationen wie Comin Home Baby über komplexe rhythmische Konzepte bis hin zu lyrischen Balladen. Gastmusiker Raul Midón setzt mit seiner charakteristischen Stimme und Gitarre einen besonderen Akzent. Die Band zeigt einmal mehr, wie intensiv, spielerisch und zugleich zukunftsorientiert ihr Zusammenspiel ist.
Auch nach über 40 Jahren bleiben die Yellowjackets ein Ensemble, das sich ständig weiterentwickelt mit klarem Blick auf die eigene Geschichte und noch stärkerem Drang nach vorne.

Now well into their fifth decade, Yellowjackets prove once again that their momentum is as strong as ever. Their new album Fasten Up, released on February 21, 2025, marks the quartets 27th recording and captures the spirit of creative drive that has defined the band since its 1981 debut. The title, taken from bassist Dane Aldersons high-energy composition, reflects both their forward thrust and a playful warning: buckle up, the Yellowjackets are charging ahead.
The current lineup pianist/keyboardist Russell Ferrante, drummer Will Kennedy, saxophonist Bob Mintzer, and bassist Dane Alderson blends long-earned experience with a constant urge to explore. True to their roots in jazz fusion, Yellowjackets continue to blur stylistic boundaries, drawing from jazz history, funk, chamber music sensibilities, and contemporary influences to shape a sound entirely their own.
Fasten Up showcases this versatility across eleven tracks: from a fresh, elastic take on Comin Home Baby to rhythmically intricate originals and beautifully crafted ballads. A special guest appearance by Raul Midón adds his distinctive voice and guitar to the upbeat track The Lion. Throughout the album, the groups chemistry, curiosity, and collective joy in discovery are unmistakable.
After more than 40 years, Yellowjackets remain a band in constant evolution grounded in their legacy yet fully committed to the road ahead.
